"Heaven is under our feet as well as over our heads."

    Henry David Thoreau

"We know that behind every image revealed there is another image more faithful to reality, and in the back of that image there is another, and yet another behind the last one, and so on, up to the true image of that absolute, mysterious reality that no one will ever see."

    Michelangelo Antonioni

"A photograph is the illusion of a literal description of how the camera saw a piece of time and space. (...)   I photograph something to see what it will look like photographed."

    Garry Winogrand

"Photography can be a mirror and reflect life as it is, but I also think that perhaps it is possible to walk, like Alice, through a Looking Glass, and find another kind of world with the camera."

    Tony Ray-Jones

Welcome to the online world of Southern Appalachia Highlands. The beauty of Smokies and Blue Ridge Mountains has drawn some big names in fine art photography to the region. Sky and clouds, fog and mist and the warmth of the sun for a brief moment add a touch of mystery and drama to this eternal beauty of infinite rows and layers of blue ridges. In moments like this I feel deeply connected to the natural world and at the same time my insignificance as its witness. For me to find my own artistic voice here is a real challenge. And here I am the poor apprentice wandering around and trying in vain to capture on two dimensional film plain moments of immense beauty which can represent the feeling of what it was like to be there when the image was photographed.

Hope, you enjoy your virtual journey.
